MHN Health Net

Acknowledging an unhealthy relationship with drugs or alcohol is only the first step toward beginning your journey to sobriety. The next step is to choose an addiction treatment program where you can safely detox and transition into a therapy program to learn more about the root causes of addiction and how to safely and effectively manage the stressors and challenges that lead you to drink or use drugs.

When researching the different types of addiction treatment programs, you have likely noticed that rehab can be costly. In fact, concerns about the cost of addiction treatment are one of the primary reasons many of the millions of people who could benefit from help at a program like ours at Hillside Mission choose to forgo professional recovery services and attempt to get sober independently. Unfortunately, this method of recovery, also called cold turkey, is often unsuccessful. In many cases, the withdrawal symptoms produced by detoxing from opioids, alcohol, and benzodiazepine drugs can quickly become overwhelming and too difficult to manage without help and support.

So how can you safely overcome addiction without creating any financial burden on your family? In 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) changed the landscape of addiction and mental health treatment. The passing of the ACA required insurance companies to change how they covered addiction and mental health treatment as part of their insurance policies. Before these changes, insurance companies were able to restrict or entirely eliminate coverages for addiction treatment, especially in the case of relapse or necessary follow-up treatments after completing a primary treatment program. Today, private insurance, corporate-sponsored insurance, and federally funded programs all provide coverage for addiction and mental health treatment to varying levels.

Does MHN Health Net Cover Substance Abuse Treatment?

In short, yes. However, as with many other insurance plans and providers, your level of coverage will vary depending on the type of plan you have. The passing of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 included mandatory coverage for substance use disorder treatment as one of the ten essential health benefits insurance plans are required to provide for their clients. This means that, regardless of the type of MHN plan you have, your plan will cover the same amount for treatment at a rehab facility like Hillside Mission as it would for a regular hospital visit.

Depending on your MHN plan, your insurance coverage may cover some or most of the inpatient (residential) and outpatient addiction treatment costs. Additionally, your plan may cover several alternate levels of care depending on your treatment needs. Examples of alternate levels of care include partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs.

What Types of Treatment are Covered by MHN Health Net?

The amount of coverage you have will vary depending on your length of stay in rehab, your insurance plan level, and whether the rehab is an in-network provider like Hillside Mission. Most MHN Health Net plans cover at least some of the costs associated with drug and alcohol addiction treatment. The type, intensity, and duration of the treatment you need to achieve sobriety will vary depending on several factors unique to your treatment needs. The most common types of treatments usually covered by MHN Healthnet include:

Detox

Sometimes, you may need to start your treatment by detoxing from alcohol and drugs. The detox process can be unpleasant, painful, and even dangerous or life-threatening. Medically-supported detox helps you safely withdraw from alcohol or drugs under careful medical and mental health supervision. Treatment providers may also administer medications to help you manage withdrawal symptoms.

Inpatient Programs

Inpatient or residential programs are live-in rehabs that provide drug and alcohol abuse treatment while you live onsite at the facility. Most inpatient programs last anywhere from 30–90 days, depending on your addiction treatment program and your individual needs and goals.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment or MAT involves using medications along with addiction counseling and evidence-based behavioral therapies to improve treatment outcomes. MAT medications used as part of drug and alcohol use disorder treatment include Buprenorphine, Methadone, Naltrexone, and others.

Before beginning a drug or alcohol rehab program, it is essential to check your MHN Health Net policy to determine which costs associated with addiction treatment will be covered by your insurance policy. Knowing this information before beginning rehab can help you start your recovery journey with the peace of mind of knowing what out-of-pocket costs you should expect during treatment.

You can verify your coverage information by contacting your local MHN Health Net policy administrator or by logging into their website to learn more about what your policy covers. If you need help verifying your coverage, you can also call our admissions team at Hillside Mission. We have many years of experience working with insurance companies and can help you navigate the insurance verification process.
